Investigators with Quincy Fire Department, Quincy Police Department looking into Sunday house fire

QUINCY — The Quincy Fire Department dispatched four engines to 922 S. Eighth on Sunday for a report of a fully-involved structure fire. 

Quincy Fire Department investigators spent Sunday night and Monday morning working through the fire scene. Investigators continue to work with QPD detectives and have not released further information. 

Engine No. 5 arrived on scene in 2 minutes 30 seconds and reported heavy fire from the rear of a two-story structure. By-standers on the scene reported to firefighters that a male was still in the residence. Engines No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 soon were at the scene.

Engine No. 5 firefighters made the initial attack on the fire, which they located on the second floor in an apartment. Firefighters with Engine No. 2 and Engine No. 4 started a search of the entire building. The fire was quickly extinguished, and all floors were searched with no victims found. 

Crews remained on scene for roughly 2½ hours, extinguishing hot spots and ventilating the structure. Ameren Electric and Gas assisted at the scene by shutting off the power and gas. Fire crews were assisted at the scene by Adams County EMS, Quincy Fire Department Rehab Team, officers from the Quincy Police Department and the American Red Cross.
