QUINCY — The presidents of John Wood Community College (JWCC) and Quincy University (QU) signed articulation agreements Tuesday designed to smooth the transfer process for students wishing to begin their undergraduate college studies at John Wood and complete them at Quincy University.

JWCC President Dr. Bryan Renfro and Quincy University President Dr. Brian McGee signed the agreements during the ceremony at John Wood’s Quincy campus.

QU is consistently one of the top universities to which JWCC students transfer. For five decades, JWCC students have successfully transferred associate degrees and credits into QU to complete bachelor’s degrees in numerous majors of study.  This latest signing highlights specific articulation agreements in programs where one or both institutions have updated coursework.

The agreements signed include programs in Agribusiness, Criminal Justice, Elementary & Special Education, Middle Grades Education and Supply Chain Management. They facilitate the transfer process for students who begin courses at JWCC and choose to transfer to Quincy University to complete a bachelor’s degree. The agreements are designed to connect community college and university learning experiences.

“John Wood shares Quincy University’s commitment to helping students attain their bachelor’s degree,” JWCC President Bryan Renfro said. “Our ongoing collaborations improve lives through education, discovery, and service. JWCC and QU share a profound belief that education changes life — a truth we see daily in our students and graduates to our region’s employers and communities. These agreements symbolize the numerous pathways and opportunities we offer students to pursue their hopes and dreams.”

“Quincy University has a long and happy tradition of partnership with JWCC to meet the needs of our community and region,” QU president Brian McGee said. “We at QU are proud to work with our friends at JWCC to provide seamless transfer opportunities for JWCC students and graduates who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree.”

John Wood and Quincy University have a proven, long-standing tradition of partnership and cooperative learning to provide opportunities to students. In 1975, the innovative “common market” method for delivery was introduced. Students could attend Quincy University and other colleges in the area, including Culver-Stockton College, Hannibal-LaGrange College or Quincy Technical Schools as JWCC students. This unique common market concept, with JWCC supplementing those offerings with courses/programs of its own as necessary, served the community and region well for several years.

The latest articulation agreements build upon the institutions’ cooperation to focus on the success of students from the tri-state region and beyond.
