Macomb Police Department officers commended for efforts during abuse incident in September 2023
MACOMB, Ill. — Two officers with the Macomb Police Department received a letter of commendation on Friday for their efforts during a September 2023 incident.
Officers Kenny Bergren and Korri Cameron responded on Sept. 14, 2023, to a residence in Macomb regarding an ongoing domestic violence situation. During their investigation, officers learned a female victim and her children had suffered from long-term physical and emotional abuse caused by the victim’s boyfriend.
Officers conducted interviews and ultimately coordinated the arrest of the suspect. Bergren and Cameron facilitated a search of the victim’s residence, which yielded evidence verifying the victim’s statements. The officers utilized the knowledge of the evidence obtained and statements provided to interview the suspect, further corroborating the allegations against the suspect.
The suspect ultimately was convicted on felony charges and received an Illinois Department of Corrections sentence.
“The officers’ compassion, dedication and professionalism mirrored the values of the Macomb Police Department and provided safety for the victim and her family,” Chief Jeff Hamer said in a press release. “Their actions not only validate that Officer Bergren and Officer Cameron are remarkable officers but also remarkable people.”
