Man involved in Jan. 18 altercation on Melview Road out of hospital, now in Adams County Jail facing four charges

QUINCY — The man who was hospitalized on Jan. 18 after he was shot by an Adams County Sheriff’s Department deputy during an altercation on the city’s south side now is in the Adams County Jail and is facing four charges.
Roger E. Stupavsky III, 22, has been charged with aggravated assault to a police officer, a Class 4 felony; aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a Class A misdemeanor; and two counts of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
Chief Deputy Pat Frazier said a 911 call was made at approximately 6:59 a.m. Jan. 18. Deputies arrived at a home in the 2300 block of Melview Road at approximately 7:12 a.m. and encountered a disturbance, learning that Stupavsky had threatened three other subjects in the home with a knife.
The deputies confronted Stupavsky upon arrival, and he also threatened the deputies. The deputies when deployed tasers, but that did not subdue Stupavsky, who continued to threaten them with a knife.
One of the deputies then fired one round from his gun and struck Stupavsky with the knife. He eventually was taken to Blessing Hospital for medical treatment.
The Illinois State Police is investigating the use of force portion of this incident.
