QUINCY — Firefighters with the Quincy Fire Department battled through the bitter cold to extinguish a fire in a mobile home on the city’s northeast side on Sunday morning.

The Quincy Fire Department was dispatched at 10:14 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, to a structure fire at 2412 Penthouse Drive near 24th and Locust. Engine companies No.2, No. 4 and No. 6 and the incident commander responded to the area along with Quincy Police Department (QPD) officers.

Engine Company No. 6 reported heavy smoke visible to the north upon leaving the engine house at 24th and Cedar. It reported a mobile home was fully involved with fire on Penthouse Drive and began an initial attack on the fire.

Engine Company No. 4 arrived on scene with the incident commander and began laying a supply line to Engine No. 6 from the corner of 24th and Sycamore. Additional QPD officers were requested to block traffic on 24th St.

Engine Company No. 2 arrived on the scene and assisted in securing the supply line to Engine No. 6. Crews from Engine Companies No. 4 and No. 2 assisted in fire suppression of the mobile home.

Engine Company No. 3 was requested to the scene to stand by for additional manpower. Ameren Gas and Ameren Electric were requested through dispatch to assist at the scene. Two investigators from the Quincy Fire Department were requested to respond to the scene as well.

Once the fire was completely extinguished, all crews worked to collect the hose lines before they froze. Hose lines had to be taken to Central Station in the pickup truck, and the supply line was placed back on Engine No. 4. All fire crews worked through the extreme cold conditions, with only one minor injury reported to a firefighter.

Fire investigators took over the scene after the fire was extinguished. An arson investigator from the Quincy Police Department was requested to assist in the investigation. The Investigation is ongoing.

No occupants were at the residence when fire crews arrived. The mobile home is a total loss.

The Quincy Fire Department Re-Hab Team, Adams County EMS Ambulance and supervisor and the City of Quincy Central Services Salt Truck assisted.
