No one injured in structure fire at 636 Jefferson that is believed to be electrical in nature

QUINCY — No one was injured in a residential structure fire at 636 Jefferson on Thursday morning.

The Quincy Fire Department was dispatched at 7:40 a.m. Thursday to a possible structure fire at 636 Jefferson when a neighbor reported smoke coming from the structure.  Engine Company No. 5 arrived on scene and reported smoke was coming from the eaves of a one-story duplex.  Engine Company No. 5 was soon joined by the Incident Commander, Engine Company No. 2 and Engine Company No. 4.  

Engine Company No. 5 made the initial attack on the fire from the rear of the residence and reported a fire in the kitchen area.  Engine Company No. 2 conducted a search of the residence, while Engine Company No. 5 was extinguishing the fire in 636 Jefferson. Engine Company No. 2 advanced a hose line into 638 Jefferson, where they located fire extension into the kitchen area from the adjoining kitchen.  Engine Company No. 4 assisted at the scene with a search of the attic and assisted the crews of Engine Company No. 2 and No. 5.  The fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported. 

One occupant of 636 Jefferson was displaced due to heavy fire, smoke and water damage, while 638 Jefferson was vacant and received fire, smoke and water damage.  Investigators were called to the scene to determine origin and cause.  The investigation is ongoing but is believed to be electrical in nature.  

QFD personnel were assisted at the scene by officers of the Quincy Police Department, QFD ReHab Team, Adams County EMS, Ameren Electric and Quincy Central Services.
