Nominations needed for Joe Bonansinga Community Service Award

United Way of Adams County

QUINCY — United Way of Adams County and the Rotary Club of Quincy annually present the Joe Bonansinga Community Service Award to a person who exemplifies the highest standards of community service. Named after its first recipient in 1998, the award honors community leaders who demonstrate:

  • A high level of service and leadership by example.
  • An intensity of energy in their work that invigorates and inspires others.
  • Longevity of service and work that nurtures the community.
  • Choosing commitments based on the needs of others and the benefit to the community
  • The true joy of helping others.

Bonansinga was the first chairman to lead a United Way of Adams County campaign that exceeded the $1,000,000 mark during the 1997 annual campaign. Near the close of the campaign, he inspired campaign volunteers to reach the goal saying, “Anything less is not acceptable for this community.”

“We want to find and honor those individuals who step up year after year to make our community a better place,” said Jeremy Wingerter, executive director of United Way of Adams County. “It’s important, especially at this time, that we carry on the rich tradition set forth by Mr. Bonansinga and showcase a community member deserving of his namesake.”

Area civic and business leaders are encouraged to nominate someone whose service to the community makes them an outstanding volunteer leader. A nomination form is available at www.unitedwayadamsco.org/joe or at the United Way of Adams County office, at 936 Broadway, Suite F. The 2022 Joe Bonansinga Community Service Award recipient will be announced at the May 10 Rotary Club meeting. Nomination forms must be received or postmarked by April 1 to be accepted.
