One dead after shooting at Macomb house party

MACOMB, IL — The Macomb Police Department (MPD) is investigating the report of a shooting that occurred off campus in the early morning hours on Saturday, March 25.

A caller reported to MPD that a shooting occurred in the 500 Block of North Johnson Street.

The Macomb Police Department has confirmed one person is dead and 10 others were injured and being treated for gunshot wounds that occurred during a house party. Macomb Police responded to gun shots at 1:55 a.m. Saturday.

The name of the deceased and the name of the injured are not being released at this time, according to MPD.

Western Illinois University Athletics events will be canceled for the weekend; all other University events will continue as scheduled.

The University Counseling Center will be open for walk-ins or appointments for support services from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today. Students can call (309) 298-2453.

The Office of Public Safety suggests everyone be vigilant about being aware of their surroundings. Individuals with information should call 9-1-1 immediately or contact Macomb Area Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS or (309) 836-2222.
