One-year-old girl killed Thursday when vehicle overturns one mile north of Palmyra on U.S. 61

PALMYRA, Mo. — A 1-year-old girl was killed in a crash on Thursday night in Marion County on U.S. 61, one mile north of Palmyra.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported in a press release that a 2001 Buick LeSabre, driven by Jamie Stringer, 28, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, ran off the highway, struck an embankment, overturned and came to rest in the median. The child was pronounced dead at 6:18 p.m. Thursday at Blessing Hospital.

LaShonda Hollindsworth Hart, 48, of East St. Louis, Mo., a passenger in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries. She was transported by Survival Flight to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo.

Three other passengers in the vehicle — a 2-year-old boy, a 3-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy — from Cedar Rapids suffered serious to moderate injuries. They were transported by Marion County Ambulance to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the Monroe City Police Department, the Palmyra Police Department and the Palmyra Fire Department assisted at the scene.
