QUINCY — If you were expecting to get something in the mail today and didn’t get it, don’t worry. It might take a little extra time for postal carriers to get it to you this week.

Bill Reitz, postmaster at the Quincy Post Office, 3535 Locust, said Wednesday morning that mail that typically is delivered from Springfield to Quincy during the overnight hours didn’t arrive in Quincy until about 10 a.m.

Postal carriers tried to deliver parcel packages and copies of The Herald-Whig this morning.

“We took out everything that we had, and we tried to get wherever we could,” Reitz said. “It’s pretty bad in some places we can’t get to.”

Asked if at least half of the parcels and newspapers were delivered this morning, Reitz said, “Probably more than that. I would say a bigger portion than that, but I don’t know the numbers.”

Reitz hopes to deliver the mail that arrived mid-morning Wednesday on Thursday — weather permitting.

“We don’t know how fast the roads will be cleared,” he said. “I would strongly suggest that customers clear out around their mailboxes, and if their mailbox is on their house, please clear a path to it. That always helps.”
