QUINCY — The Quincy and Tri-Township Fire Departments responded to a fire at 3019 Cabot Rd. after a passerby reported smoke coming from the home.

QFD received the call around 9 a.m. Tuesday and TTFD responded via mutual aid. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the home’s roof and the QFD incident commander requested an additional engine.

“Our guys came in … they found a smoldering fire in the attic,” Assistant Fire Chief Alan Munger said. “It appears that the origin of the fire was somewhere around that attic fan, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the attic fan was the cause.”

No one was home when the fire started.

Crews extracted cellulose and other insulation from the area where the fire started.

“You’ve got to get it out because how it (fire and smoke) snakes through whole house,” Munger said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
