Plainville man arrested Saturday morning after allegedly fleeing crash scene Friday night

PAYSON, Ill. — A Plainville man was arrested early Saturday morning and is in the Adams County Jail after allegedly fleeing a crash scene on foot Friday night.

Deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Department were sent to a single vehicle rollover crash with injuries shortly after 8 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, the deputies was learned a 2001 Honda Accord was westbound on North 550th just east of Highway 57 when it travelled off the road and overturned.

The vehicle had three occupants. William Gough, 43, of Plainville was located in the vehicle when the deputies arrived and transported to Blessing Hospital with minor injuries. Dusty Peters, 34, of Plainville was found traveling away from the scene on foot a short time later and transported to Blessing Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle could not be immediately found after an extensive search of the area by several departments, including the assistance of Tri-Township Fire Department with their thermal imaging drone.

However, deputies found the driver of the vehicle, Michael Willis of Plainville, in rural Payson shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday. He was believed to have fled the crash scene on foot. He is charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, failure to report an accident to police, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no valid Insurance and no valid drivers license. 

Deputies also were assisted by Adams County EMS and the Payson Fire Department.
