QUINCY — Adam Yates, chief of the Quincy Police Department, is asking for people who live along Quincy’s snow emergency routes to move their cars in advance of a winter storm that is forecast to begin early Sunday morning

“Significant snowfall is expected, along with ice accumulation, which will make roads dangerous and travel difficult – if not impossible,” Yates said in a press release. “Snow removal crews and first responders must be able to operate efficiently and safely while clearing the streets and responding to emergencies.”

Snow emergency routes throughout the city are marked with blue signage and designated to main thoroughfare roads to allow emergency vehicles to travel quickly. During a significant snow event, snow removal crews (plow trucks) focus on snow emergency routes to facilitate any calls for emergency response.

A snow emergency has not yet been declared for Quincy.

“We do not know if a snow emergency will be declared due to this storm,” Yates said. “However, if a snow emergency declaration is warranted, there will be little time for residents to make alternative arrangements and remove vehicles from the snow emergency routes.

“The police department has no desire to cause vehicles to be removed from snow emergency routes. Doing so takes time and personnel, and it’s inconvenient and costly for the owner. We ask that our residents be proactive.”
