QFD responds to another fire where the building was unoccupied and had no working utilities

QUINCY — Monday’s fire in the 7th and Kentucky neighborhood is under investigation and the latest in a rash of fires Quincy Fire Department has responded to.
The general alarm included Engine 2, Engine 5, Engine 4 and the incident commander, who requested an additional engine as smoke was visible upon approach. Engine 3 was then added to the alarm.
Upon arrival, the incident commander reported a 2½ story brick residential with heavy fire and smoke on all levels and through the roof on the Kentucky Street side. Dispatch was advised to send Engine 6 to the scene and to call out a second alarm to staff Central Station.
Engine 2 was set up on the Seventh Street side, and Engine 4 was told to set up on the Kentucky Street side and to conduct a blitz attack with its roof-mounted master stream. Engine 5 arrived on scene and provided a hydrant line to Engine 2 from the northeast corner of Seventh and Kentucky and then assisted with additional lines.
Engine 3 arrived on scene and ran a hydrant line to Engine 4 from the southeast corner of Eighth and Kentucky. Dispatch was requested to have Quincy Police Department Officers block Eighth Street at Kentucky and have Central Services bring out barricades.
Engine 6 arrived and set up on Seventh Street to man their attack line on that side of the residence. The crew of Engine 5 set up a 2½ inch attack line from Engine 2 and attacked the fire from the north end.
Engine Company 3 manned an attack line from Engine 4 and attacked the fires on the east side of the residence. Engine Company 2 attacked the fire with their elevated master stream and an additional 2½-inch handline. The crew of Engine 6 eventually connected to their own hydrant at the southwest corner of Seventh and York and continued to man hand lines.
The fire was extinguished after approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. The metal roof and an interior brick partition wall hampered the extinguishment of the fire. The residence was a condemned duplex which
was in the initial stage of demolition. There were reports of a homeless person being evicted from that location and there were no injuries. The building is a total loss.
An investigator from the Quincy Fire Department was requested as well as investigators from the Quincy Police Department. The investigation is ongoing. There were no reports of injury at the scene.
The Quincy Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Quincy Police Department. Adams County EMS and Supervisor, The Quincy Fire Department ReHab Team, Ameren Electric, Ameren Gas and Quincy Central Services.
