QFD responds to southside house fire
QUINCY – The Quincy Fire Department responded to an early morning structure fire Saturday on the city’s south side.
Crews arrived at 1222 Monroe just after midnight as Engine Companies #5, #2, #4, #3 and the Incident
Commander were dispatched to a one-story, single-family residence that was on fire. It was reported that everyone was out of the house.
QFD initiated a defensive attack and pulled multiple handlines from Engine 5 as Engine Co. 3 laid a supply line from the hydrant at 12th and Monroe. Once the water supply was in place, the deck gun from truck 5 was used to knock down the large amount of fire coming from the front windows. Handlines were taken to the sides and rear of the home and water was applied through the windows until a majority of the fire had been knocked down.
Once most of the smoke had cleared following ventilation, crews performed a search and began looking for hotspots, which kept firefighters on scene for almost another four hours. The home sustained extensive fire damage throughout. The garage to the east of the house also had melted siding from heat exposure.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
QFD had a total of 13 personnel on scene, and they were assisted by the QFD Rehab Team, Quincy Police Department, Adams County Ambulance and Ameren.
