QUINCY —Three Quincy Fire Department engines and other personnel responded to a fire at 1525 Lind just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

While responding, crews noted smoke visible from 15th and Broadway. The first arriving crew found heavy fire coming from the rear of the residence and an additional engine company was requested.

Crews used two handlines to extinguish the body of fire from the outside. A third handline was deployed, and fire crews then made entry to the residence where they found heavy smoke and fire in the rear of the residence, extending into attic. A water supply was established from the hydrant at 16th and Lind.

Ameren was contacted to secure utilities. The fire was declared under control and crews continued to extinguish remaining “hot spots”.

Quincy Police blocked traffic on Lind and 16th Street for crew protection. Adams County Ambulance Service was on scene for standby and the QFD Volunteer Rehab Team responded to assist with firefighter recovery.

Approximately one-third of the residence sustained fire damage and the entire structure sustained heavy
smoke damage. The occupants were able to escape prior to fire department arrival. Two cats perished in
the fire. One firefighter sustained a minor injury.

There were a total 14 firefighters on scene from three engines, a quint, the Assistant Chief, and the Chief.
QFD Cause and Origin investigators examined the scene. The fire is considered to be accidental. The
heat source and first material to ignite are undetermined.
