QHS to hold 27th annual Octoberfest marching band parade and field competition Saturday

QUINCY — Bands from Illinois, Missouri and Iowa will travel along Quincy’s Maine Street on Saturday, Oct. 14, during the 27th annual Octoberfest Invitational Parade and Field Competition

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. at 30th and Maine and travel down Maine to Quincy Junior High School. Bands will present their competition selections at the judge’s stand located in the parking lot of Emerald City Jewelers at 20th and Maine.

The field competition will begin at 5 p.m. at Flinn Memorial Stadium, with the opening ceremony presented by the Quincy High School Marching Blue Devil Band, QHS Colorguard, Q-City Pommers and the QJHS Concert Band. During the competition, bands will perform their half-time shows for adjudication by a panel of judges. The Marching Blue Devils, directed by Jeff Duffy, will perform an exhibition at the end of the competition.

Awards will be presented for outstanding performances at the conclusion of the evening competition. Memorial awards to be presented will be the Ragan Knapheide Award for Outstanding Percussion, the James Burns Award for Outstanding Brass, the Charles Heidbreder Memorial Drum Major Award, the Todd Slater Memorial Spirit Award, the Randy Hoover Outstanding Soloist award and the Paul Duker Memorial Award.

Tickets for the field competition will be available at the gate. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
