QUINCY — The Quincy Police Department’s Crisis Response Unit to assist with an armed – barricade incident in the 900 block of South 7th on Tuesday night.
At 8:45 p.m. Quincy Police patrol officers received a third-party report that a wanted subject was holding his family at knifepoint in the 900 block of South 7th. When the first patrol officer arrived on scene, the suspect was observed sitting on the porch. As the officer approached, the suspect brandished a large knife and retreated into the residence. Concerned for the safety of the family members inside, the officer unsuccessfully tried to enter the residence to apprehend the armed suspect.
A patrol officer and supervisor quickly established communication with the suspect and observed that his parents were inside the home. Members of the Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiations Team were called in to assist. At about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday one family member left the residence. Officers continued talking to the suspect, eventually entering the residence and taking him into custody without incident. There were no reported injuries to the suspect, family members or police officers. The incident lasted approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.
The suspect – a 40-year-old white male wanted for FTA-Battery/Resisting – is not being identified at this time due to him being taken to Blessing Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. It is believed the suspect lives at the address where the incident occurred. Family members told officers the suspect had not been taking medication and they believed they were safe while with the suspect.
