QPD responds to shots fired near Quincy University
QUINCY – Just before 11 p.m. Friday, Quincy Police responded to the 500 block of North 18th to a report of gunfire.
Officers interviewed witnesses, who said a man had fired a handgun several times, then left the scene in a white pickup.
No one was injured and no property was damaged.
Quincy University issued a statement on its Facebook page about the incident:
On Friday night an individual not affiliated with Quincy University approached a party in the yard of an off-campus house. After being asked to leave, the individual pulled out a gun and fired several shots into the air.
No one was injured and the individual fled the scene. At this time there is no danger to anyone on campus and this is being treated as a random isolated incident.
Students were initially asked to remain in their residence halls to keep them from trying to go toward the scene.
Campus Security and QU Administrators along with the Quincy Police Department arrived on the scene within minutes of the 911 call. An investigation is ongoing.
The safety and security of our students always remains our top priority.
At this time, police are calling it an isolated incident.
