QU kicks off fund drive with $1.3 million goal
QUINCY – Quincy University launched its 2022-2023 QU Fund Drive with a $1.3M goal
on Thursday at the Quincy Country Club.
Last year, the QU Fund Drive surpassed the $1.2M goal in support of campus improvements, technology enhancements and student scholarships. The QU Fund is comprised of unrestricted gifts to the university and temporarily restricted gifts to athletic and academic programs.
“Our notable increase in enrollment continues to drive the momentum of Quincy University,” said Robert Wyatt, Ph.D., vice president for university advancement. “Impacting more students brings more opportunities and more challenges. Now, more than ever, meeting the QU Fund goal is critical. We are confident in increasing the goal for the fund this year as we continue to see our alumni and friends meet and exceed expectations for the betterment of the entire QU experience.”
The chairpersons for this year’s campaign are Jim ’70 and Mary Mooney from Naples, Florida. Jim is a Quincy University alumni and a successful entrepreneur. Jim was CEO, President and Chairman of OM Group Inc. based out of Cleveland, OH. The company’s value was estimated at over $1 billion. Jim is well seasoned with international business, and he has received various honors including Entrepreneur of the Year and the George S. Dively Entrepreneurship Award by the Harvard Business School Club. Jim is also a former QU Board of Trustee member, Alumnus of the Year, Golden Hawk and a faithful supporter of the
university’s mission.
Mary Mooney is also an entrepreneur and the co-founder of Exclusive Group Holdings, Inc. Mary has extensive experience in international business, as well as litigation and consulting. She is a published author of the best-selling book, eMolecule: Harnessing Your Entrepreneurial Spirit. She dedicates over 200 hours per year to pro bono legal work, and she serves as a mentor to first year law students. Mary is licensed to practice law in the state of Florida, and she received her Masters of Business Administration cum laude and her Juris Doctorate from Saint Louis University.
The Mooneys have invested in many areas of the university including the QU Fund, QU & You Golf Tournaments, athletics and various scholarships including the Alan M. Hopkinson, Scholarship and the Fr. F.J. Gray, OFM History Scholarship.
“Each time we set foot on Quincy University’s campus, we are reminded that this is a special place,” said Mary Mooney. “We believe the QU Fund is the foundation of support that secures the future growth of the University and its students. We are honored to have this opportunity to work with the University and its alumni and friends in furtherance of these goals.”
“Rooted in Franciscan principles, the University creates a student-focused, collegiate environment committed to transforming students into responsible stewards of the community by igniting self-discovery, instilling practical skills, and incubating entrepreneurship,” said Jim Mooney.
