Quincy Area Community Cat Coalition hopes to raise $15,000 with March 11 fundraiser

QUINCY — The fledgling Quincy Area Community Cat Coalition hopes to raise $15,000 through an upcoming fundraiser.

The group, formed in 2020 and active since 2021, will host “Whiskey, Wine and Whiskers” at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11 inside the Holiday Inn ballroom, 4821 Oak.

This is the organization’s principal fundraiser for the year, although QACCC spokesperson Sally Westerhoff said the group also benefits from grants, donations and letter drives. The 2021 fundraiser generated $12,000.

“Our goal is to humanely reduce the number of feral and free-roaming cats in Adams County,” said Westerhoff, a longtime activist for the humane care of animals. “We are also trying to educate cat caregivers.”

Westerhoff said she has been encouraged by the number of supporters for the group’s goals.

“At last year’s fundraiser, we were hoping for maybe 50 to show up, and there were more than 200,” Westerhoff said.

Working with two local veterinary groups, Westerhoff said last year the organization oversaw the spaying, neutering and providing vaccine for 347 cats. This year’s goal is to service 500 to 600 cats.

The three-hour fundraiser will have an auction. More information about QACCC and contact information is available through its Facebook page and qaccc.org website.

Westerhoff said 100 percent of the money generated at the fundraiser goes directly to animal care.

Westerhoff has been involved with the humane care of animals for more than 25 years. She previously served 15 years as executive director of the Quincy Humane Society.
