QUINCY — Grace and June Hendrian, daughters of Adam and Kellea Hendrian of Quincy, will have a donut, coffee and lemonade stand to benefit the Quincy Salvation Army from 8-10 a.m. Sept. 4 at Hardy’s Radiator (on North 12th across from the Illinois Veterans Home entrance).

Grace and June’s goal is to raise enough money to provide 500 meals, which is approximately $1,250. All funds raised will be given to Quincy’s Salvation Army Family Services.

Asked about the items being sold, Kellea said, “Donuts are the girls’ favorite breakfast. Lemonade is one of their favorite drinks. Adam and I need the coffee.”

Food items will be store bought, individually wrapped and distributed via grab and go. Cash and checks will be accepted, and customers can use Venmo (@kellea-hendrian) to pay for their treats.

This isn’t the first fundraiser for The Salvation Army for Grace. She asked her mom in 2019 if she could have a lemonade stand with the intent of donating the proceeds to a local charity. Kellea instructed her to think about what organization for which she’d like to raise money.  With a goal of raising $100 for the Quincy Salvation Army, Grace (and her parents) embarked on pulling together the details of the stand.

Grace surpassed her goal by $900. The funds donated to The Salvation Army’s Family Services paid for approximately 400 meals for those The Salvation Army serves.

“We have always felt giving a few hours of our time was the least we could do,” Kellea said. “We really wanted to do it last year, when fundraising to support our community was such a dire need.”

“It’s inspiring to see young people like Grace and June get involved in helping others by using things they love, like donuts and lemonade, to raise money,” said Matt Schmidt, development director for the Salvation Army. “They’re learning at a young age the power of giving back and that should inspire all of us of any age to see what we can do to use our talents to help people in need.”

Bell ringing volunteers for the Salvation Army can reserve their date, time, and location at www.RegisterToRing.com starting in October. Contact volunteer coordinator Jeremy Koren at 217-231-5633.
