QUINCY — A Quincy man was arrested earlier this week after a social media company flagged him for sending nude images to minors.

The Quincy Police Department received a case referral on Dec. 20, 2023, from the Internet Crimes Against Children Division of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.  The referral began after social media company Snapchat flagged a user for sending nude images to minors. Multiple search warrants were served on various internet companies, and Nicholas W. Hultz, 24, of rural Quincy, was developed as the suspect.

Hultz was contacted at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 by detectives with the Quincy Police Department during a traffic stop near 17th and Maine. Hultz was arrested without incident, and his vehicle was temporarily impounded.

After arresting Hultz, detectives executed search warrants on Hultz’s vehicle and his residence. The Adams County Sheriff’s Department assisted QPD in executing the search warrant at the residence. Various electronic media and other items were collected at that time.  The vehicle was returned to the owner after the search warrant was completed.  Hultz was lodged in the Adams County Jail.

Hultz made his first appearance in Adams County Circuit Court on Thursday, May 16. He was charged with three counts of manufacturing/distributing harmful material, a Class 4 felony punishable for between one and three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Hultz was placed on pretrial release and released from the Adams County Jail. His next appearance in court is set for June 5.
