Quincy man arrested after attempting to flee in his truck

QUINCY — What started out as a routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a Quincy man on multiple charges.

Gerald C. Schmidt, Jr., 61, of 1204 N. 8th, was stopped in his pickup at U.S. 24 at N. 5th just after noon Monday. According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Schmidt refused to stop for officers and drove back toward Quincy.

With the assistance of the Quincy Police Department, Adams County Deputies located the abandoned pickup in a dead end alley near N. 8th and Cedar. The Illinois State Police K-9 Unit found Schmidt in a residence near where the truck was abandoned.

Schmidt was lodged in the Adams County Jail and faces the following charges:

  • FTA-Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Aggravated Fleeing
  • Operating Uninsured Vehicle
  • Driving While Licenses Revoked
  • Possession of Stolen Property
