BARRY, Ill. — A Quincy man was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender, and his wife was arrested on a charge of obstructing justice.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Department initiated a criminal investigation at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 17 regarding a sex offender unlawfully residing at a residence in the 800 block of Front Street in Barry.

The investigation began when Chief Deputy Zack Orr received information that John R. Campbell, 37, was residing in a camper on the property located in the 800 block of Front Street, Barry, Illinois.  According to Orr, John Campbell had been registering his address as “homeless” with the Quincy Police Department.

When the Pike County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the residence, Amanda Campbell, John Campbell’s wife, allegedly lied to law enforcement that John was not at the residence.  Upon further investigation, John Campbell was found hiding in the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

Both of the Campbells are lodged in the Pike County Jail.
