Adams County Sheriff's Department

QUINCY – Adams County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Quincy man on the city’s west end after he took off running from them.

Around 11:15 p.m. Friday night, Adams County deputy saw a man walking in an alley way in the area of 8th and Chestnut. The deputy attempted to speak with the subject who was later identified as Walter J. Bartz.

Bartz, 42, ran from the deputy, through yards, jumping fences, and eventually forced his way inside of an occupied residence in the 700 block of Cherry Street.

Deputies later discovered Bartz was possibly in possession of a firearm.

Deputies and officers from the Quincy Police Department searched the Cherry Street residence, and later located Bartz in the basement and a revolver was found near him. Bartz was arrested and lodged in the Adams County Jail for Fleeing, Home Invasion, and Criminal Trespassing.

Additional charges are pending.
