Quincy Police Department makes another arrest in connection to shooting of teen girl in October

QUINCY — A seventh person was arrested Wednesday in connection to the shooting death of a 16-year-old female in October 2023.

A 17-year-old male juvenile wanted for conspiracy to commit armed robbery in relation to the shooting death, along with several other outstanding Adams County warrants, was found by officers with the Quincy Police Department in the 500 block of Oak at approximately 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 17.

The juvenile now is lodged in the Adams County Juvenile Detention Center pending court appearances.

Three adults and four juveniles from Quincy have been arrested. 

Fallon M. Gillum and Tristian L. Johnson were arrested in November in connection with the incident. Both eventually agreed in February to plead guilty to mob action, a Class 4 felony, and accept 18-month sentences to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Demarco Smith, 19, was arrested April 1 at a residence in the 1400 block of Spring and charged with two counts of armed robbery, a Class 1 felony, and two counts of robbery, a Class 3 felony. He is lodged in the Adams County Jail.

Three Quincy juveniles were arrested Oct. 17 on warrants for conspiracy to commit armed robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. They were lodged in the Adams County Juvenile Detention Center.

Assistant State’s Attorney Josh Jones had said in Adams County Circuit Court that Mackenzie Bullard, 16, was shot in the head and killed as the result of an armed robbery during which a group of adults and juveniles allegedly conspired to steal a gun. Bullard, a student in the Quincy School District, was found dead in the early morning of Oct. 11 in a home on the 400 block of Scenic Drive.

A press release from the Quincy Police Department said the investigation is continuing, and more arrests are possible.
