QUINCY — The Quincy Police Department received numerous burglary-to-vehicle calls and several reports of stolen vehicles last weekend.

Many of the stolen vehicles were recovered. A press release from the Quincy Police Department said the suspects targeted the south side of town. As in the past, most of the burglaries were to unlocked vehicles. The stolen vehicles were either Kia or Hyundai vehicles or other makes that were unlocked with the keys left inside.

The Quincy Police Department’s investigation into these crimes is ongoing, and officers are asking for the community’s help in solving these crimes. The suspects are believed to be juveniles traveling together, either on foot or in stolen vehicles. It appears they are intentionally concealing their identity and operating in the late night/early morning hours.

If anyone has information or surveillance video they believe may be helpful, call the Quincy Police Department (217-228-4470) or submit a tip through Quincy Regional Crimestoppers. Information is available at www.Quincycrimestoppers.com. If you see something or hear something suspicious during the overnight hours, call 911 and report it immediately.

“As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” Police Chief Adam Yates said in a press release. “Please lock your vehicles. Ensure any valuables are removed from the vehicle or are not visible from outside the car. Never leave your vehicle unlocked with the keys inside. If you own a Hyundai or Kia vehicle, research your year and model to learn if your vehicle needs a security upgrade to avoid it being easily stolen.

“Criminals often use the cover of darkness to their advantage. Consider keeping exterior lights on overnight. Experience has taught us that these groups, when active, often move around the entire city. We cannot be everywhere all the time. Information from our residents is crucial to help us identify and prosecute these offenders.”
