Quincy Police officers help man who had climbed over railing on Bayview Bridge
QUINCY — Officers with the Quincy Police Department safely helped a man off the Bayview Bridge on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were dispatched at 3:35 p.m. to the Bayview Bridge for a report of a suspicious person. When officers arrived, they discovered a man had climbed over the railing and indicated he intended to jump. Officers requested assistance from fire rescue units and EMS units to stand by in case man went in the water.
Bayview Bridge traffic was shut down so officers, including a trained crisis negotiator, could talk to the man. He was safely taken into custody at around 4:50 p.m., then transported to Blessing Hospital for evaluation.
No injuries were reported. Traffic on the Bayview Bridge was shut down for a little more than an hour, according to Adam Yates, chief of the Quincy Police Department.
