QUINCY — Quincy Junior High will get a new freezer/cooler and work will be done at Baldwin Elementary School as part of the Quincy School District’s summer maintenance program.

The Quincy School Board Wednesday night approved health/life safety spending on those two projects. Emrick Brothers had the low bid for the the freezer/cooler at $71,414 and Brinkman Plumbing had the low bid for a new fire protection and sprinkler system at Baldwin for $276,100.

The Board also approved the three-year Health Life Safety plan for district maintenance projects that will mostly be done during the summers.

The Board did not take action on possible repairs/replacement of the HVAC unit at Quincy High School’s E Building. Upgrades were made to that system during the 2010-2011 school year. During the Building/Grounds Committee meeting earlier in the week, that committee discussed past issues with the system and considered how to move forward.

Board President Shelley Arns also introduced two new appointments. Ryan Clair will take over as the district’s director of maintenance next month and Anna Oakley is the district’s new director of communications.

In other action, the Quincy School Board:

  • Approved the privately-funded renovation of the boys basketball locker room at Blue Devil Gym.
  • Approved the sale of a house at 2909 Lind for $136,000 to Brayden and Haley Luckhaupt. The house was built by Quincy Area Vocational Technical Center’s Building Trades class.
  • Held a public hearing and approved the amended 2022-23 budgets for QSD 172, West Central Region, Quincy Area Vocational Technical Center and Special Education Association. This process is a formality to follow state guidelines as it closes out the current fiscal year.
  • Adopted updates provided by the Policy Reference Education Subscription Service (PRESS) regarding district policies related to Faith’s Law, a new state law that goes into effect July 1 that is geared toward the prevention of grooming of students and child sexual abuse.
