Quincy School Board presents 24-25 budget; formally accepts $345,000 bus barn bid
QUINCY — The Quincy School Board has reviewed the school district’s $103.5 million budget and the public will have 30 days to review it before a vote.
On Wednesday, board members closed the 30 day public hearing period and then approved the 2024-25 budgets for some of the entities within the QSD 172 umbrella including the Special Education Association, Quincy Area Vocational Technical Center and West Central Region.
The public hearing for the district’s overall budget will take place during the Quincy School Board meeting on Sept. 25.
The budget will have a $5.4 million surplus with revenues of $108.9 million and expenditures of just under $103.5 million. The budget calls for a 10 percent hike in employee health insurance and a 4 percent average increase in salaries.
The $103.5 million balanced budget includes a 4% increase in salaries and an estimated 10% increase in health insurance costs
The district continues to receive about $12 million from the federal government in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) dollars, but a continued level of funding at that level is not guaranteed as a long-term source of revenue.
In other action, the School Board voted to approve the sale of the old bus barn facility at 121 N. 20th to Quincy Storage and Transfer for $345,000. The closing date on the sale is Sept. 26.
Trina Casburn of Quincy Storage and Transfer said the company intended to use the 13,600 square foot building for boat and RV storage.
Closing is set for Sept. 26
The district’s Transportation Department vacated the bus barn this year and has moved to the former K&L Arena site at 1600 N. 43rd. Superintendent Todd Pettit said the transition and start of the school year bus service has been smooth with far less congestion than operations had at the old location.
