Raymond “Skip” Vahlkamp, former Quincy alderman, dies at 81

QUINCY – Raymond “Skip” Vahlkamp, who served 28 years on the Quincy City Council, passed away Friday.

He was 81.

Vahlkamp was employed for 36.5 years at the Illinois Veterans Home, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Mississippi Valley Hunter’s and Fishermen’s Club and South Side Boat Club, among other organizations.

He retired from the Quincy City Council in 2011.

Valkhamp was married to the former Teresa Haiducek for 61 years. He was a son of the late Raymond “Penie” and Emma Vahlkamp. He had five children, Susan, Keith, Judy, Bernie and the late Brian Vahlkamp, and six grandchildren.
