Registered sex offender to enter plea on 2022 charges
QUINCY — A Quincy man indicted over a year ago on multiple sex offense charges has apparently changed his mind again and wants to enter a plea.
Aaron Washington, 46, was scheduled to have a bench trial in December. But in a Wednesday morning court appearance, Washington’s attorney, Public Defender Todd Nelson, told Judge Robert Adrian that his client wished to enter a plea.
Washington had previously considered entering a plea in September, before retracting that in October and opting for a bench trial.
Adrian scheduled the plea and sentencing for Dec. 6, but kept the bench trial scheduled for the Dec. 15 docket in case the plea negotiations fall through.
Washington was arrested on Sept. 12, 2022 and is charged with Criminal Sexual Assault of a Family Member under the age of 18, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse with a Family Member under the age of 18, multiple counts of failing to Register as a Sex Offender and Unlawful Communication with a Minor.
Quincy Police began investigating Washington last September after receiving information about alleged illegal contact he had with a 13-year-old Quincy girl. Investigators learned Washington had multiple social media sites, vehicles and other items he had failed to report on his sex offender registration as required by law. Investigators also learned Washington was living at an address on North 12th Street within 500 feet of Iles Elementary, 3111 N. 12th.
Washington remains in the Adams County Jail on $50,000 bond.
