QUINCY — The City of Quincy continues to respond to the water main break that occurred Tuesday afternoon near the riverfront.

City crews were on site immediately and have completed repairs, but the system is still stabilizing. Residents, particularly those on the east side of town, may experience low water pressure as water levels are replenished.

City officials are asking residents to continue conserving water until further notice. This means limiting non-essential water use such as watering lawns, washing cars, and other high-consumption activities. Regular household use including bathing, laundry, brushing teeth, and doing dishes remains safe and acceptable.

At this time, there is no boil order in effect. However, if you are experiencing a complete loss of water, please call the Water Department at 217-228-4590. If your water remains off after reporting, you will most likely need to boil your water once service returns. It is critical that residents notify the Water Department so crews can track where service remains disrupted.

“We have an incredibly knowledgeable and hard-working team that has been on-site and on-call around the clock,” said Jeffrey Conte, Director of Public Works. “They are doing a fantastic job, and we’re grateful for their dedication and expertise.”

Conte also said the city added 1 million gallons of storage and will continue to add more throughout the week and things should be “back to normal” in a couple of days.

“Just cut your excessive use,” Conte said. “Don’t change normal behavior.”

City officials will continue monitoring the system closely and will provide updates throughout the day on the City’s website and social media channels.
