CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Birkey’s Farm Store, a Case IH and Case Construction dealer based out of Champaign, announced Wednesday the company had entered into a purchase agreement to acquire Selby Implement Company’s stores in Quincy and Hannibal.

The acquisition is expected to close July 31.

“This is a great opportunity for Birkey’s to expand our dealership operations into the contiguous territory west of our existing footprint,” Mike Hedge, Birkey’s Chief Executive Officer said. “We look forward to developing relationships and serving the needs of customers in the Selby Implement territory with the same high level of service that our customers have come to expect from us over the last 69 years.”

Selby Implement Company opened in 1948 at the intersection of 24th and Locust. In 1961, Selby’s moved to its current location at 2201 N 24th Street. When the company originally opened, it sold International Harvester farm equipment and General Electric appliances. In 2011, the company opened a second location on US 61 in Ralls County south of Hannibal when it purchased Grand View Nursery.

A news release from Birkey’s said the company looked forward to “continuing the exceptional legacy of Selby Implement.”

Birkey’s Farm Store has been operating since 1954 with 17 locations in Illinois, one store in Indiana and more than 450 employees. The company is also employee-owned.
