QUINCY — Quincy Community Theatre Executive Director Burgundy Hill has announced that Brandon Thomsen is departing his role as the organization’s artistic director on Nov. 8.

In a social media post Wednesday morning, Hill said it was a “bittersweet” moment, calling Thomsen “a remarkable colleague and dear friend.”

Thomsen was with QCT for 18 years, serving first as director of education and then as artistic director.

“As I reflect on the last 18 years of my life, my eyes fill with tears of gratitude,” Thomsen said. “My relationships with QCT vocal directors, choreographers, stage managers, actors, designers, crew, teachers, students, volunteers, staff, board members, and patrons have shaped who I am as a person and artist. Through these collaborations, I have learned about the craft of theatre, but more importantly, I have learned some of the most significant lessons of my life. Thank you to this community for your faith in me. I love this organization dearly. I am so very grateful.”

Thomsen had just returned from a one-year sabbatical.

“To clarify, this was not our intention at the start of Brandon’s sabbatical,” Hill said. “But thanks to Brandon’s support of QCT and our evolution during the last few months, I feel confident in our ability to successfully navigate this transition. The search for a new Artistic Director will begin in due time, and we are committed to finding the right candidate to help us perpetuate quality theatre entertainment and education.”

QCT is hosting a Farewell Reception for Thomson on Oct. 30 from 5 to 7 pm.
