Three men arrested after reports of shots fired Tuesday in Macomb
MACOMB, Ill. — Three men were arrested Tuesday after officers with the Macomb Police Department responded to the area of Albert and Piper for a report of shots fired.
Officers arrived on the scene at 12:16 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, and determined no one was injured and the suspects had fled the scene. Officers began collecting evidence and searched the neighborhood for the suspects’ vehicle. MPD officers eventually found the vehicle and developed information that the suspects were in a Macomb residence and likely still armed.
Officers surrounded the residence on Derry Lane while detectives secured a search warrant. Once the warrant was acquired, MPD officers, assisted by deputies from the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the Illinois State Police, called out the suspects one at a time. The suspects were secured without incident. The search warrant was served, and evidence was located to support charges.
Arrested were:
- Deandre Smith Jr., 22, of Hazel Crest was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and two counts of illegal possession of a weapon by a felon.
- Christian D. Walker, 24, of Macomb was charged with two counts of illegal possession of a weapon by a felon. He also had a McDonough County warrant for indirect criminal contempt at the time of his arrest.
- Kirk G. Waters, 24, of Macomb was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and two counts of illegal possession of a weapon by a felon. Waters also had warrants from Cook and McDonough counties for weapons and drug offenses.
Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer said the investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be brought forward.
