QUINCY — The Lincoln-Douglas Debate Museum, 128 N. Fifth, is partnering with Quincy-based nonprofit Impact Global on the development of Quincy African heritage and cultural exhibits inside the museum. An open house to preview the project’s development will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29.

Featuring five interactive video exhibits and numerous wall exhibits, the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Museum provides visitors with an experience of Abraham Lincoln’s rise to the presidency with a focus on his time in Quincy. Impact Global’s planned Quincy exhibits will serve as an expansion to complement the related histories and the lessons from the Lincoln era.

“The Lincoln Douglas Debate Museum is pleased to partner with Impact Global in the operation of the museum and to be able to provide Impact Global with space for exhibits,” said Scott Giltner, chair of the museum’s advisory board. “We are also excited about the additional insights the exhibits may provide about the issues debated by Lincoln and Douglas in Quincy.”

The African heritage and cultural exhibit curators aim to pay homage to the enduring spirit and contributions of African Americans in Quincy while highlighting the Lincoln era’s protection of their stories and legacies.

The Lincoln-Douglas Debate Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It is closed Sundays and most major holidays.

The purpose of the museum is to celebrate and educate the public about the Lincoln-Douglas debate, likely the most important event of national significance in the city’s history. It was founded in 2010 with an extensive remodeling and a relaunch in 2023.
