Traffic stop in Carthage leads to two arrests in connection to vehicle burglaries investigation

CARTHAGE, Ill. — Two arrests were made Tuesday after a joint investigation between three Hancock County law enforcement agencies.

A traffic stop in Carthage conducted Tuesday, Dec. 12, by deputies with the Carthage Police Department led to the apprehension of Joshua L. Cramer, 35, of Clinton, Iowa, and Christin J. Vanpelt, 32, of Davenport, Iowa. 

Cramer was charged with driving while license revoked, operating a vehicle with suspended registration, operating an uninsured vehicle, obstructing identification and a Rock Island County warrant. Vanpelt was charged with obstructing a peace officer, possession of stolen dealer plates and possession of ammunition without a FOID card. 

Both were lodged in the Hancock County Jail awaiting detention hearings. 

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, the Carthage Police Department and the La Harpe Police Department are working together to investigate reports of vehicle burglaries and stolen vehicles in the La Harpe area.
