QUINCY — Two Chicago men were arrested Sunday at a Quincy grocery store on theft charges.

Officers with the Quincy Police Department have been working on the theft of wallets from purses by subjects that had occurred in December and February. The victims’ cards had been used at various locations, and detectives have been working to identify the suspects involved.

The suspects were identified, and the investigation was ongoing when officers were alerted on Sunday, March 10, that the subjects had returned to the Hy-Vee grocery store at 3700 Broadway. The officers located the suspects before other thefts occurred.

Malcolm Williams, 55, and Sherman Gibbs, 63, both of Chicago were arrested for the previous thefts. Gibbs also did not immediately identify himself and was wanted out of another state for similar activity. Both were released on a notice to appear on the new charges, but Gibbs was lodged on the warrants.
