Two from Hannibal in jail after domestic assault incident

HANNIBAL, Mo. — A Hannibal man and a Hannibal woman are in the Marion County Jail after a domestic assault incident on Saturday.

Officers with the Hannibal Police Department responded to the 3600 block of McMasters for a domestic disturbance at approximately 9:11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. Officers located Julia A. Bowen, 55, in the parking lot with a male who was lying on the ground and had a gunshot wound. Detectives with the Hannibal Police Department responded to the scene and determined Bowen had fired several rounds from a handgun at another man, Richard D. Bowen, 24.

A physical altercation ensued between Julia Bowen and Richard Bowen after she had fired the gun. At some point during the altercation, the male victim suffered a gunshot wound. Richard Bowen had fled the scene with the firearm. He later returned to the scene, and detectives recovered the handgun. 

The male victim, unidentified in the police department report, was transported to Blessing Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. 

The Circuit Court of Marion County issued warrants on Sunday, Nov. 6 for Julia Bowen and Richard Bowen. Julia was charged with domestic assault in the first degree and armed criminal action. Richard was charged with possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.

Both Julia Bowen and Richard Bowen remain in the Marion County Jail. Their bonds are set at $50,000 each.

No information was provided by the Hannibal Police Department as to if the Bowens were related.
