Two men lodged in McDonough County Jail after shooting incident on Friday in Macomb

MACOMB, Ill. — Two men were arrested Friday for their alleged involvement in a shooting incident.

The Macomb/McDonough County 911 Center received a report at 10:56 a.m. Friday, June 7 of a shooting that occurred at 1501 E. Murray in Macomb. Patrol officers with the Macomb Police Department responded to the scene and found multiple subjects outside the residence. Officers detained two adult males and learned no one was injured from the shooting.

The Macomb Police Department’s Investigation Division began an investigation, and preliminary findings show that two adult males were involved in a domestic violence situation outside the residence, which led to one of the adult males removing a firearm from a concealed location and discharging one shot at the other adult male.

A search warrant was executed at the property. A 9mm semi-automatic handgun was recovered.

The two adult males were identified as Courtney L. Hayes, 33, of Macomb and Caleb K. Lane, 35, of Sikeston, Mo. Hayes was arrested and charged with domestic battery. Lane was arrested and charged with aggravated unlawful discharge of a firearm. Both men are lodged in the McDonough County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The Macomb Police Department was assisted by the Illinois State Police Troop 4 Patrol and the McDonough County State’s Attorney’s Office.
