United Way of Adams County offers free online tax filing tool
QUINCY — United Way of Adams County wants people and families who have yet to file their 2021 tax returns to know a no-cost option is still available through MyFreeTaxes.com, a free United Way service.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, an annual United Way of Adams County service that processes people’s income tax returns for free, has officially concluded its tax preparedness season. As in-person appointments will not continue, UWAC officials still want to help those who have waited until now with a no-cost option to file their 2021 tax return with www.MyFreeTaxes.com.
VITA, an IRS-sponsored program, results in increased savings and income to local individuals and families. More than 700 people and families used the Adams County VITA program to file their federal and state income taxes, resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in refunds.
“For those who haven’t had the chance to file their income taxes yet, they can still file with a no-cost option through United Way,” said Reggie Freel, site coordinator for VITA. “Simply go to www.myfreetaxes.com to file your tax return through this trusted and secure United Way service.”
Since its inception in 2007, the United Way of Adams County VITA program has generated more than $15 million in refunds, saved residents more than $1.6 million in filing fees and pumped in more than $5 million in federal earned income credits into the local economy. A free volunteer-led financial education series recently was started focusing on money management, budgeting and becoming more financially knowledgeable.
