Victim in Jefferson Street shooting dies, suspect at large
QUINCY — The woman involved in last week’s shooting in the 1100 block of Jefferson has died.
Dana A. Lawton-Marshall, 47, was sitting on the front porch of a home in the 1100 block of Jefferson with another person. The investigation so far has determined that Lawton-Marshall played no part in this disturbance and was not an intended victim of the shooting.
Lawton-Marshall died of her injuries at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Ill. and autopsy was performed at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill. on May 30.
The Quincy Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police, and Adams County Ambulance Service units responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Jefferson Street in reference to a female that had been shot on May 23.
QPD’s investigation has led to the identification of Victor A. Weems, 19, as the suspect. The further investigation has revealed that a disturbance occurred near 12th & Jefferson involved multiple people and ultimately led to shots being fired.
Subsequent to the autopsy, additional charges against Weems were filed, including an arrest warrant for Weems for first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm was issued and bond has been set at $5 million.
In addition to the arrest warrant for this incident, Weems is wanted for multiple other unrelated offenses:
- Home Invasion & Aggravated Battery
- Unlawful Possession of Stolen Vehicle
- Obstructing Justice/Endangering the Life of a Child/Reckless Driving
- FTA – Obstructing Identification
