Warsaw man jailed for setting fire to front porch of home

WARSAW, Ill. — A Warsaw man is in the Hancock County Jail and faces charges for aggravated arson.

At approximately 12:16 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a disturbance at 1160 Sycamore Street in Warsaw. The caller reported his roommate was tearing up the house. 

While deputies were on their way, the caller called back to say the roommate had set the front porch/door on fire. The caller had been inside the residence and got to the door and put out the fire. 

Deputies arrived and identified Jimmy G. Barragan, 59, as the suspect. Deputies discovered methamphetamine and methamphetamine paraphernalia on Barragan’s person. He was interviewed and placed under arrest for possession of methamphetamine and aggravated arson. 

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hamilton Police Department and Illinois Department of Conservation.
