Wednesday afternoon fire in northwest portion of Quincy labeled as undetermined
QUINCY — The cause of a fire on Wednesday afternoon at a structure fire in a home at 1631 N. Fifth was labeled as undetermined pending further investigation.
The Quincy Fire Department was dispatched at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday. The home was believed to be vacant. Engine companies No. 4, No. 2 and No. 6 and the incident commander responded to the initial alarm. Large amounts of smoke were visible from blocks away.
Upon arrival, crews found a single-story house with flames coming from the front porch and windows. Company No. 4 began an exterior attack and proceeded to douse flames from the outside of the house, then proceeded to make an interior attack. Company No. 2 arrived, began ventilation and pulled a second hose line and continued hitting fire from the outside.
Once the exterior fires were out, Company No. 2 entered and performed a search. Crews continued until the flames were brought under control. Company No. 6 performed rapid intervention team duties. Company No. 5 was called to the scene to search the neighboring house for a fire extension.
The residence was found to be vacant. It suffered extensive fire and smoke damage throughout. The house next door also was vacant. It received heat damage to the siding and windows.
The Quincy Fire Department responded with 13 firefighters and received assistance from the QFD Rehab Team, Quincy Police Department, Adams County Ambulance and Ameren.
