Woman arrested following alleged break-in, assault on HPD officers on Country Club Drive

HANNIBAL, Mo. — A New London woman was arrested on multiple charges in connection with a weekend break-in on Country Club Drive.
An arrest warrant was issued Saturday in the Associate Circuit Court of Marion County charging Margaret A. Smith, 33, with trespassing, property damage, resisting arrest and two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer.
Officers were sent to the 400 block of Country Club drive just after 2 a.m. Saturday to a report of a burglary in progress, where Smith had reportedly broken out glass on a door to an occupied home. One of the residents physically held Smith, while another resident held her at gunpoint.
When officers arrived on the scene, a struggle ensued when Smith grabbed the officer and was taken to the ground. During the struggle, both officers sustained injuries. One officer declined medical treatment, and another was treated at a local hospital and was released after undergoing medical treatment.
Smith remains in the Marion County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
