An apology as we wrap up our coverage of the first week of the Bliefnick Trial
Muddy River News wants to be a news operation that pushes some envelopes.
I have a saying whenever one of our crusty old newspaper guys wants to run some story that seems to appeal to a certain outdated audience we have in our community.
“It isn’t 1975 anymore.”
But, we also want to be a responsible news operation.
Following Wednesday’s testimony, some graphic video from the courtroom that showed Rebecca Bliefnick’s body was on our YouTube page. There was also some video shown Tuesday that we were able to edit out.
Wednesday we were trying to post the video as quickly as possible to meet the demand for content. I did not relay the message to the video editor on which portions needed to be edited out.
That’s on me. It’s on me regardless of if I did it or one of my team did it because I’m the publisher/general manager.
We have since removed and re-edited the video. We are taking our time posting Thursday’s video to be extra careful nothing slips by. Thursday morning’s evidence presentation was extremely graphic.
Quincy is a small town. We aren’t some cable tabloid TV operation. We are a community news outlet. We know we don’t always please everyone, be we don’t want to intentionally offend or maliciously hurt anyone.
We thank you for your support of Muddy River News. We know we aren’t perfect and if we believe we err, we will own up to it.

Publisher/General Manager, Muddy River News
