I wonder if Chisox fans are drinking less this year since the team is improved? … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 1,336 of The Daily Dirt.

1. A recent report indicated which MLB fans enjoy consuming the most alcohol.

And by alcohol, we mean more than just a brewski.

“More modern-era imbibing at baseball games has evolved to include other alcohol options, too, from margaritas to stadium-specific concoctions,” according to writer Rick Suter of USA Today.

So, which fan bases down the most alcohol during a game? The top spots from recently released 2024 data revealed a rather surprising list — at least to me. Here are your medal winners from the 30 MLB teams:

Gold medal: Chicago White Sox. At Rate Field, fans average 4.2 drinks per game and spend an average of $46.

Silver medal: Atlanta Braves. Attendees at Truist Field will throw down an average of 4.0 drinks per game and spend an average of $32.

Bronze medal: Cleveland Guardians. With Cleveland’s (lack of an) offense, it’s no wonder the Guardian fans pour down an average of 3.8 drinks and spend an average of $35 per game at Progressive Field. You can’t really blame ’em for trying to forget about all the runs their team does not score.

Other clubs of interest:

13. Chicago Cubs: Cubbie fans pound down 3.4 drinks per game, but at a higher price ($45).

15. Kansas City Royals: KC followers are good for an average of 3.3 drinks, but they only cost them an average of $25.

24. St. Louis Cardinals: Surprisingly, Cards fans rank near the bottom with norms of 2.8 and $28.

2. Did you know (Part 419)

  • That 30 percent of people can raise one eyebrow independent.
  • That 8 percent of women and 0.5 percent of women are color blind.
  • That 16 percent of humans have dry ear wax instead of wet.
  • That men and women each lose between 50 and 100 hairs per day, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. It’s a normal part of the hair growth cycle for hair to shed as new hairs grow in.
  • That one in 3,000 people are born with either webbed toes or webbed fingers.

3. Joel Klatt of Fox Sports has released his 10 leading college football programs to earn their first playoff appearance this fall. If he’s correct, it could be a good year for our region of the country:

  • 1. Illinois
  • 2. Ole Miss
  • 3. South Carolina
  • 4. Miami (Fla.)
  • 5. Iowa
  • 6. Missouri
  • 7. USC
  • 8. Kansas State
  • 9. Florida
  • 10. Nebraska

Steve Thought O’ The Day — I want to see a report indicating what MLB stadiums sell the most Mountain Dew, Classic Coke or A&W Root Beer.

Steve Eighinger writes daily for Muddy River News. You do have to drink a lot to be a White Sox fan these days.
