Daily Dirt for Dec. 27, 2021

Welcome to today’s three thoughts in Vol. 170 of the Daily Dirt.

1. Research shows that an average of 50 million Americans eat at least one meal per day at a variety of fast-food eateries. And what do they eat the most, you ask? Here are the No. 1 orders at some of the fast-food sites you probably frequent:

  • McDonald’s: The Golden Arches’ famous fries have been an anchor of the McDonald’s menu since the 1950s.
  • Hardee’s: This familiar fast-food site sells more than 236 million biscuits a year.
  • Subway: Foot-long turkey sub.
  • Domino’s Pizza: Pepperoni pizza (hand-tossed crust) and salad.
  • Firehouse Subs: Hook and Ladder sub, which features smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, Monterrey Jack cheese, mayonnaise, deli mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion and a kosher dill pickle on the side.
  • Arby’s: The “classic roast beef sandwich” is the runaway leader, but followed closely by the curly fries.— Papa John’s: Large pepperoni pizza.
  • Panera: Mac-and-cheese, with a variety of options.
  • Dunkin’ Donuts: Its hot and iced coffee are the most popular menu items.
  • Culver’s: A butterburger with cheese is the top-ordered item.
  • Auntie Anne’s: A three-way tie between the original pretzel nuggets, cinnamon sugar nuggets and the original pretzels.
  • Long John Silver’s: The two-piece fish meal is the prized catch.
  • Wendy’s: The single cheeseburger is a fan fave.
  • Panda Express: Orange chicken is first and foremost.
  • Qdoba: The grilled adobo chicken bowl is No. 1.
  • Little Casear: Pepperoni pizza.
  • Fazoli’s: Breadstick sandwiches.
  • Dairy Queen: Blizzards.
  • McAlister’s Deli: Club sandwich.

2. Strange, but oh-so-true facts:

The actual full name of a Barbie doll is Barbie Millicent Roberts.

  • Actor Tom Cruise has been divorced three times. His marriages were to Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. All three marriages ended after Cruise’s soon-to-be ex-wife turned 33.
  • Actor Nicolas Cage’s much-publicized spending habits have cost him dearly — no pun intended — through the years. Some of his best-known purchases have included two Bahamian islands for $7 million, $300,000 for a dinosaur skull, $276,000 for two albino king cobras, $450,000 for the Shah of Iran’s Lamborghini, $20 million for a luxury yacht that included 12 bedrooms, $3.45 million for a haunted house in New Orleans and $8 million for two castles in England. Not surprisingly, Cage eventually filed for bankruptcy after blowing through a one-time $150 million fortune.
  • Ears of corn typically have an even number of rows. Most have an average of 16.

3. I ran across some interesting football predictions for 2022, compliments of redlabelsports.com:

  • Aaron Rodgers will replace Ben Roethlisberger as quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • Tampa Bay’s Tom Brady will win his fourth NFL MVP award. Cleveland’s Myles Garrett will be the defensive player of the year.
  • Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux will be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft.
  • The Big 12 will continue its westward expansion by inviting Boise State, San Diego State, Air Force and Colorado State. The conference recently added BYU, Central Florida, Cincinnati and Houston.
  • In his first year as coach at LSU, Brian Kelly will lead the Tigers to the SEC championship.

Steve Fact O’ The Day
Steve once ate an ear of corn with 17 rows.

Steve Eighinger writes daily for Muddy River News. I wouldn’t have been shocked had he said he had eaten 17 ears of corn.
